## Description

MX Cookieless Analytics is the official WordPress plugin for the MetriXs Analytics
service (https://metrixs.eu). MetriXs is simple, privacy-friendly web analytics
that sets no cookies and needs no consent banner in the EU. Visitor IPs are never
stored; identifiers rotate daily, so MetriXs can’t track visitors across days.

This plugin adds the MetriXs tracker to your pages and can verify your site automatically(
no DNS records needed), straight from your WordPress admin.

**Tracking is opt-in and off by default.** Activating the plugin loads nothing and
sends nothing. The tracker only starts after you paste your site API key, click “
Connect & verify site”, and tracking is enabled in the settings. You can pause it
at any time with one click.

Features:

 * Pageviews, visitors, visits, bounce rate, visit duration, pages per visit
 * Sources (referrer, UTM, paid-ad click attribution), locations, devices
 * Custom events, outbound link clicks, file downloads, 404s
 * WooCommerce revenue tracking (Revenue, AOV, conversion rate, funnel, top products),
fired server-side so redirect-based payment methods such as iDEAL are captured
 * Light + dark dashboard, installable as a PWA
 * EU-hosted (Germany), data never leaves the EU
 * Exclude logged-in users or specific roles from tracking

Full step-by-step documentation: https://docs.metrixs.eu/features/wordpress/

To get started, create a free account at https://app.metrixs.eu, add your site,
create a site API key (Settings Sites API keys), and paste it into Settings MX
Cookieless Analytics.

### External service

This is the first-party plugin for the MetriXs Analytics service (https://metrixs.
eu) and requires a MetriXs account. The plugin communicates with metrixs.eu only,
and only after you explicitly enable tracking and connect the site:

 * Loads the tracker script (tracker.js) from app.metrixs.eu so pageviews and events
   are collected by MetriXs
 * Sends analytics events for this site to app.metrixs.eu (including server-side
   WooCommerce order events, if enabled)
 * Talks to the MetriXs API (app.metrixs.eu/api/…) with the site API key you provide,
for site verification and connection status

No executable code is downloaded beyond the MetriXs tracker script itself. The plugin
collects no data of its own and sends nothing to any third party. Before you connect,
the plugin makes no requests to metrixs.eu at all. What MetriXs collects, and what
it deliberately does not (cookies, visitor IPs, cross-day identifiers), is documented
at https://metrixs.eu/data-policy.

## Installation

 1. Install and activate the plugin. Nothing is loaded or sent yet.
 2. Create a free MetriXs account at https://app.metrixs.eu and add your site.
 3. Create a site API key in the MetriXs dashboard (Settings Sites API keys) and
    copy it.
 4. In WordPress, go to Settings MX Cookieless Analytics, paste the API key, enable
    tracking, and save.
 5. Click “Connect & verify site”. Your site is verified automatically, no DNS records
    needed, and tracking starts.

## FAQ

### When does tracking start?

Only after you opt in. Activating the plugin does nothing on its own: no script
is loaded and no data is sent. Tracking starts when you paste your API key, click“
Connect & verify site”, and tracking is enabled in the settings. Disconnecting or
unticking “Enable tracking” pauses it immediately.

### Do I need a consent banner?

No. MetriXs sets no cookies and stores no personal data or persistent identifiers,
so no consent is required under the ePrivacy Directive/GDPR cookie rules. See the
MetriXs data policy at https://metrixs.eu/data-policy for details.

### Does it work with WooCommerce?

Yes. Enable the WooCommerce option in the plugin settings. Checkout, payment and
order events are sent server-side (so redirect-based payment methods are captured),
and the MetriXs dashboard shows Revenue, Average Order Value, conversion rate, a
checkout funnel and top products.

### Can I exclude my own visits?

Yes. Exclude all logged-in visitors, or pick specific roles (administrators are
excluded by default).

### Where is my data stored?

On MetriXs servers in Germany. No data leaves the EU. MetriXs stores no visitor
IPs and no persistent identifiers; see https://metrixs.eu/security and https://metrixs.
eu/data-policy.

### Can I use a different MetriXs URL?

Yes, there’s a “MetriXs URL” field in the settings for self-hosted or custom endpoints.
